Plymouth University’s first cohort of optometry graduates were recognised recently at a graduation ceremony sponsored by Boots Opticians, Specsavers, Elsevier, Mitron Medical, J&J, Topcon and Devon LOC.

Leanne Smewing, pictured with Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins, won two awards - the Elsevier Award for best overall performance in ocular pathology and therapeutics and the Specsavers Group award for best overall performance in the final year of the Plymouth University optometry programme.

‘As lecturers and staff it was really nice to be able to reward the high achievement of our students and to promote optometry at Plymouth University,’ said lecturer Stephanie Mroczkowska.
