Plans for a new optometry course in the South West of England will be considered by the General Optical Council's (GOC) education committee later this month.
The GOC revealed the planned timetable along with formal confirmation that an application for a course based in Plymouth had been received.
Optician first revealed plans for a new optometry course based in Plymouth late last year (10.12.10) and news of the course has been widely welcomed among employers. Recruitment of professional staff in many regional areas continues to be a problem and it is hoped that a university course in an area such as the South West will have a beneficial effect on employment there.
