The College of Optometrists has introduced a more flexible route to College Fellowship to take into account the applicant's achievements in the workplace as well as success in formal examinations.
The previous approach was entirely based on the applicant's academic achievement in the College's higher qualifications.
Commenting on the announcement, College president, Kevin Lewis said: 'This makes Fellowship accessible to more College members who have made a significant achievement to the practice of optometry.'
