The College of Optometrists has awarded the Fellowship of the College to Dr Susan Blakeney and Trevor Warburton in recognition of the significant contribution they have each made to the profession. Since January 2008 a more flexible route to Fellowship has been introduced based on achievements in the workplace. Dr Susan Blakeney is a practising optometrist and is optometric adviser to the nine primary care trusts in Kent. She was chairman of Lambeth Southwark and Lewisham Local Optical Committee for over five years, and is a member of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich LOC. She has recently been elected as chairman of the Optometric Advisers Group. Trevor Warburton has worked as an optometrist in independent practice since 1979. A member of the Stockport LOC for most of that time and its chairman since 1994, he has also served as the AOP’s elected representative for Manchester since 1994 and was elected to its board of directors in 2002. Warburton also chaired the Association’s Professional Services Committee for four years and was the elected chairman of the AOP from 2006 to 2008. Dr Blakeney and Warburton will be formally recognised at the College’s Diploma Presentation Ceremony on Tuesday 3 February 2009 at Central Hall, Westminster.
