The Optical Workers' Benevolent Fund will receive a funding boost from Optrafair.

The Optical Workers' Benevolent Fund will receive a funding boost as the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians (FMO) will provide a proportion of Optrafair 2011 takings to support the charity.

Grants go towards easing issues such as ill health, ageing and problems faced by those who have worked in manufacturing optics, with claims examined by trustees.

FMO chairman Barry Dibble said: 'We hear, from time to time, about some distressing cases of hardship faced by those who have worked within optical manufacturing but who do not qualify for other assistance. We should be looking after those who have worked loyally to further our industry and for this reason we have committed to make a donation from the proceeds of Optrafair 2011 to meet these needs.'
