FODO chairman optimistic over confederation plans

Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians chairman Paul Carroll said this week he was confident the first steps to creating a pan-optical organisation could be in place by the end of the year.

As reported in Optician, (News, May 9), in a proposal outlined at the Association's AGM, Carroll called for a closer working relationship between the optical bodies on the model of the Eye Health Alliance, which he added could lead to the creation of a Confederation of British Optics.

The concept got the formal backing of the AOP during its recent AGM when outgoing chairman Trevor Warburton told delegates that collaboration on mutual issues in recent years had paved the way for such an organisation to become a reality.
