FODO considers impact of government policy on optics

Optical organisation the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians has had its say on how the outcome of the recent general election and subsequent Queens speech and their impact on optics

Optical organisation the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians (FODO) has had its say on the impact on optics of the general election.

‘While there was nothing specific to the health sector in the legislative programme, David Cameron confirmed his pledge to follow the recommendations of the Five Year Forward View and back extra NHS funding of ‘at least’ £8 billion a year, said FODO policy officer Arielle Nylander.

‘The main focus of the Queen’s speech was on supporting growth in business and the wider economic recovery. Of particular interest to the optical sector will be the continued emphasis on removing excessive red-tape affecting small and medium sized businesses at the UK and EU levels, and the Tax Lock Commitment to prevent any tax increases across VAT, NICs and income tax.
