FODO offers united voice for Ireland

High demand from members of the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians (FODO) in the Republic of Ireland has resulted in an expanded service for the country.

FODO Ireland has been set up to support the growth of the corporate sector and prepare for 'the changing nature of eye care in Ireland'. Expanded activities and services will include lobbying for members, offering support solutions and promoting the sector.

It has already responded to government consultations to protect the fees structure for primary eye care and to oppose compulsory registration of representative bodies as lobbyists. A FODO Ireland website has also been set up.

Incoming FODO Ireland chair Peter McGrath said: 'We are delighted to have access to the intelligence and support framework offered by FODO Ireland. We look forward to working with our colleagues in the AOI and IADO to present a united voice for the sector.'

FODO has provided insurance cover in the Republic of Ireland for a number of years. David Hewlett, chief executive of FODO Ireland, added: 'In this age of economic uncertainty, rising regulatory burden, and ageing populations, there has never been a more important time for the whole optical sector to work together.'
