Fréchette joins Essilor

A former deputy secretary general of the United Nations has been appointed as a new director of Essilor International at its 2102 Annual General Meeting.

Canadian Louise Fréchette was the first deputy secretary general to the UN from 1998 to 2006, has worked for the Canadian Civil Service and is chair of the board of directors of international charity Care Canada.

Essilor International chairman and chief executive officer Hubert Sagnières commented: 'Her experience with the United Nations and various non-governmental organisations, combined with her knowledge of emerging economies, will be of considerable value to Essilor as we accelerate our growth in fast-growing markets and strengthen our commitment to corporate social responsibility.'
