There have been record numbers of applications from second-year optometrist and dispensing optician students for an Irvine Aitchison Memorial Fund Bursary enabling them to take part in a Vision Aid Overseas group visit to Africa.
Chairman of Trustees, Brian Carroll, said: 'We have been very impressed with the quality of applications as well as the quantity and it has been truly difficult finalising the shortlist for interview. It is very heartening to hear how the optometrists and dispensing opticians of tomorrow appreciate the opportunities they have in the UK and are willing to give their time and newly learned skills for the benefit of those who are less well off. '
