The demise of the PCTs will not be lamented says Chris Bennett

Much has been said and written about the reorganisation of the National Health Service and for optometry that cannot happen soon enough.

Optometry has long waited for the opportunity to demonstrate how it can help patients through intelligent co-management and provision of primary care. When that opportunity came along it was missed and optometry was left off the list of those chosen to help shape reform. The outcry over change to the NHS has introduced a delay which has provided an opportunity for optometry to make its voice heard. The Optical Confederation has made its pleas for a seat at the table.
