
GlobalData forecasted that diagnosed prevalent cases of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) would rise to 10 million in 2033 across the seven major markets (7MM*).
This represented an annual growth rate of 1% from around 9.1 million cases in 2023.
GlobalData’s latest report, Glaucoma: Epidemiology Forecast to 2033, attributed the increase in part to improved disease awareness and diagnostic testing, along with underlying demographic changes.
Epidemiologists found that the prevalence of glaucoma (excluding normal tension glaucoma) increased with age. This could be explained by the fact that an individual’s intraocular pressure increases as they age.
