National Glaucoma Awareness Week will take place from June 11-17, the International Glaucoma Association has announced.

National Glaucoma Awareness Week will take place from June 11-17, the International Glaucoma Association has announced.

The week-long awareness campaign will aim to make the general public aware of glaucoma which is the leading cause of preventable blindness in the UK.

People in risk groups will be encouraged to get the three tests that will help them have early diagnosis. Existing patients will also be encouraged to comply with their treatment to ensure that they have the optimal chance of saving their vision.

People in the high risk groups, including those aged over 40, those who have a close relative with glaucoma, those of African Caribbean origin and diabetes patients, will be encouraged to visit their optician and ask for the three tests that can help early diagnosis.
