Eye pressure test centres come to the high street

A series of pop-up eye pressure test centres have been set up by researchers at City University, London to help identify people at risk of glaucoma.

The IGA and the College of Optometrists have funded an 18-month research project in association with PhD student and optometrist Laura Edwards and lead supervisor Professor David Crabb from the university.

Prof Crabb said: ‘Retail pop-up booths in high streets and in shopping centres are common – we propose to determine if pop-up's can help to identify people at risk of glaucoma in communities which are hard to reach.’

In total, eight pop-ups have been planned during August, in Preston, Stoke on Trent, Cambridge, Telford, Northampton, Bristol, Nottingham and Coventry.
