Glaucoma UK launches £100K research award

Glaucoma UK and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists partnered to run a prestigious glaucoma research award worth £100,000.

The award, funded by Glaucoma UK, backed a range of research topics from prospective stem cell treatments to the use of big data in patient risk stratification.

Applications were invited from UK and Ireland-based departments and individuals seeking support for a fellowship or grant for a project,
with Glaucoma UK favouring patient-orientated research for glaucoma management.

Joanne Creighton, Glaucoma UK’s chief executive, said: ‘With glaucoma being the second leading cause of blindness in the world, these grants are instrumental in empowering researchers to explore innovative approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment
of the disease.'

Interested parties were invited to send their completed application forms and CV to education@rcophth.ac.uk by May 7.
