The World Council of Optometry (WCO) is to continue its official relationship with the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The collaboration was given the green light by the WHO executive board at a recent meeting. The agreement to continue working on mutually beneficially projects is centred on a three-year plan (2009 - 11). Objectives include undertaking a presbyopia study in priority geographical areas.

WCO president Robert Chappell OBE welcomed the decision: 'The WCO is delighted to receive confirmation of its continued official relationship with WHO and hopes to consolidate its ties in areas that will help the Council's efforts to enhance and develop eye and vision care worldwide.'
