A High Court application has been lodged by the General Optical Council for the extension of an interim suspension order placed on a dispensing optician convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in May.
Suspended DO Shashi Obhrai had a third review hearing before the GOC’s fitness to practise committee last week, as her existing 18-month order was due to expire on Christmas Eve. The initial suspension was made in June 2012 amid charges against Obhrai, owner of Obhrai and Son Opticians on the Strand in London, for human trafficking, unlawful imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault, the GOC outlined.
