DO suspension continues

A dispensing optician convicted of actual bodily harm and making threats to kill will continue an 18-month interim suspension order ruled a GOC fitness to practise committee.

Shashi Obhrai, of Northwood, Middlesex was suspended by the GOC in June 2012 (News 29.06.12) after charges were brought against her. She was convicted last month (News 24.05.13) at Croydon Crown Court and given a custodial sentence of three years and two months, suspended for 20 months.

The committee said it was satisfied that the suspension should continue for the protection of the public and described the offences as serious. It added that the Council was considering whether the matter should proceed to a substantive hearing.
