GOC consults on licence to practise plan

In its revalidation consultation, the General Optical Council is asking whether a licence to practise should be used as part of the scheme.

A licence could be introduced to distinguish between revalidated and non-revalidated practitioners. This would mean that registrants not active in clinical practice, such as lecturers, business owners, managers or those on a career break, would not need to undergo revalidation until they re-entered practice.

The GOC is exploring three options: whether only registrants active in clinical practise should be revalidated whether all registrants should undergo revalidation or whether all registrants should be revalidated, but to differing degrees depending on their scope of practice.
