GOC erases Solihull-based optometrist

The GOC has erased Nirmal Koasha, a Solihull-based optometrist, from its register following her 12-month suspension in February 2023 for misconduct and deficient professional performance.

Her suspension stemmed from engaging in activities restricted to registered optometrists, despite failing to meet the Continuing Education and Training (CET) cycle requirements for 2016-2018.

Additionally, she failed to record necessary patient information and falsified clinical data in subsequent examinations.

Review hearings in March and August 2024 revealed Koasha had not adequately reflected on or taken steps to remedy her deficiencies, and so her suspension and impairment were maintained on the grounds of public protection and public interest.

She was ultimately erased from the register due to her continued lack of engagement with the fitness to practise process.
