GOC erases suspended dispensing optician

Suspended dispensing optician Gary Marshall from Bodedern in Wales has been erased from the register by the General Optical Council (GOC).

A GOC fitness to practise committee found Marshall’s fitness to practise impaired on patient safety and public interest grounds due to showing persistent lack of insight into the seriousness of his actions.

Marshall was initially suspended by the GOC for inappropriately modifying patient spectacle prescriptions and lying about seeking authorisation from an optometrist when altering prescriptions.

The Costco employee did not attend his substantive hearing or subsequent review and he failed to demonstrate insight into the regulatory concerns or provide evidence of undertaking any further training.
