GOC erases trainee DO

The General Optical Council (GOC) has decided to erase Harrow-based student dispensing optician Naseem Suleman from its register after finding her fitness to train impaired by reason of misconduct.

Suleman provided false GOC registration numbers to employers to appear to be fully qualified, told a colleague she was fully qualified and carried out restrictive activities reserved for fully qualified dispensing opticians.

The registrant supplied spectacles to a child under 16 years of age, among other activities and when confronted that her GOC number had not returned her name, she pretended to have been given a temporary number.

The Committee found the registrant’s dishonest conduct breached the trust of colleagues, placed patients at risk of harm and showed blatant disregard for the professional standards expected of an optical student.
