GOC fees and standards update

The General Optical Council (GOC) approved registrant fees for 2024-25 and discussed its Standards review at the final council meeting of the year on December 13.

From April 2024, the main registration fee for optometrists, dispensing opticians, and body corporates will increase by 6.6% to £405, in line with inflation.

Fees for students will remain at £30, and the discount for low-income fees will also remain at £120, meaning that the low-income fee will increase in line with inflation to £285.

Council also approved proposals to consult on draft revisions to the GOC Standards of Practice for optometrists, dispensing opticians, standards for optical students and optical businesses.
