Hearing adjourned
A substantive hearing to determine whether the fitness to practise of Naftali Everard Bastien was impaired has been adjourned until July 14 to allow the GOC to have a consultant ophthalmologist give evidence.
The fitness to practise committee was due to hold the meeting between February 5 and 7 2008 to consider allegations that the optometrist was guilty of 'deficient professional performance'. It was alleged that on August 22 2006 Bastien did not refer a patient on an emergency, same-day basis in the light of her intraocular pressure measurements. He was also alleged on the same day not to have adequately recorded his examination of the patient.
