Fitness to practise hearing adjourned

Disciplinary proceedings against optometrist John Prebble have been put on hold until next year by a GOC fitness to practise committee.

Prebble, who practises at the Belle Vale Shopping Centre, Norris Green, Liverpool, faces allegations that his fitness to practise is impaired following his examination of a patient between June 2004 and March 23 2006.

At an initial hearing in London last week, Margaret Hallendorff, chair of the GOC's fitness to practise committee, said: 'The committee has heard an application on behalf of the GOC that this hearing be adjourned and be reheard by a new committee.

'The present committee has determined that it is necessary for the patient to attend and give evidence and to be cross-examined on the issue in dispute.'

The adjourned hearing will now take place from February 18-20 2008.
