General Optical Council makes two new appointments

The General Optical Council (GOC) has made two new appointments to its management team.

Mark Webster, who has previously worked as finance director for the Royal London Society for Blind People, was appointed director of resources after working on an interim basis in the role since July.

Former barrister Safia Iman will join the GOC on a nine-month contract as interim director of fitness to practice, covering maternity leave for Lisa Davis.

‘These appointments will ensure we continue to have the right level of expertise to deliver effective public protection,’ said GOC chief executive Samantha Peters. ‘Mark has very much impressed over the last four months and is a real asset to have on a permanent basis and Safia has a unique skill set and extensive experience of professional regulation.’
