Wrexham-based optometrist Elizabeth Williams has been suspended from the GOC’s register for 12 months after failing to perform and record adequate examinations and refer patients.
Williams was referred to the GOC after a number of patients contacted the practice where she was employed and enquired about their referrals in 2022, which resulted in an internal investigation.
The fitness to practise committee heard that Williams failed to perform and record a dilated examination for one patient, as well as not obtaining information in relation to the patient’s diabetes.
For the same patient, Williams failed to perform and record an anterior examination of the eyes, as well as make their referral within a reasonable timeframe.
