An open consultation on the General Optical Council's proposed revalidation scheme, which closed on September 25, received only 47 responses. Of those, 39 were from registrants, Optician has learnt.

The Council had urged registrants to give feedback on the scheme for all optometrists and dispensing opticians when it officially launched the consultation in March. Stakeholders were invited to comment on any aspect of the proposed scheme, including: what criteria should determine whether a registrant undergoes revalidation the intensity and frequency of the revalidation process and the evidence required when demonstrating professional competence.

Optician understands that draft proposals will now be presented to the GOC board in November, after which a formal proposal on a revalidation scheme will be the subject of another consultation.
