GOC to review locum's case

As reported in Optician (March 20), Neil Carter had conditions imposed on him for eight months by the GOC after failing to diagnose that a patient was suffering from a detached retina.

Carter was accused of 'deficient professional performance' by failing to fully investigate or ask about any symptoms. He was instructed to attend clinics at a hospital eye department and undertake one-to-one slit-lamp tuition at a university optometry department.
