
Updates have been made by the General Optical Council to its continuing education and training (CET) exceptions policy.
The document detailed when it would not be proportionate for the regulator to remove a registrant who does not meet their CET requirements.
It explained that the new policy focused more on public protection, expectations around maternity, paternity and adoption leave, and the policy no longer listed examples of exceptional circumstances.
Leonie Milliner, director of education at the GOC, said: ‘We have listened to feedback during the consultation and have updated our CET exceptions policy so that it continues to be fair to registrants while ensuring our overarching objective of protecting the public.’
