GOC warns practitioners about bogus calls
Practitioners are being urged to be vigilant if they receive a telephone call to the practice purporting to be on the behalf of the GOC and requesting employee information.
The GOC is warning optical practices that this not a request that has been instigated by the Council and that practitioners should not divulge any information and furthermore report any such calls to them.
A statement from the Council said: 'It has come to our attention that a number of optical practices have received calls from individuals claiming to be phoning from the GOC, asking for employee details. These calls are not legitimate. When enquiries have to be made, the GOC would normally request that information be sent in writing. Anyone with concerns about the legitimacy of a request is advised not to divulge information of this nature over the telephone and to contact the GOC.'
