Patients could be put at risk by practitioners failing to achieve their CET requirements according to the General Optical Council (GOC).
Concerned that 3 per cent of practitioners have not earned any CET points at all during the current cycle, the GOC is urging its registrants to make sure they are on track to earn their minimum CET requirement by the December 31 deadline.
Those that fail to do so will not be able to apply for 2010-11 retention and may be removed from the registers. Of the 3 per cent who are yet to earn any points at all, 148 are dispensing opticians and 340 are optometrists. In addition, 1 per cent of all full registrants have still not registered on the CET website www.cetoptics.com.
