The remnants of one of the profession’s last survivors of the short-lived dot-com boom perished this week.
The College of Optometrists pulled the curtain down on monoptica, the chat and message site, which was, in its earlier guise, the now long-forgotten opticians-online started by dispensing optician Chris Edmonds.
Edmonds’ fan-fare launch of opticians-online – which included editorial staff and lofty ambitions – lasted briefly.
The site was associated with the Eyefashion show, the London show which ran for one edition in 2000, before opticians-online changed its name to monoptica in May 2001.
