Google-self-drivingGoogle’s latest prototype self-driving vehicles have been deemed roadworthy and released onto the streets of Mountain View, California.

The technology giant confirmed last week that the vehicles, which could one day help people with sight loss, were fully self-driving and designed to work without a steering wheel or pedals.

An initial phase of the project will have safety drivers aboard with a removable steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal to allow them to take over driving if needed. The prototypes’ speed is capped at 25mph.

Google has also sent a prototype 'Lexus' car to be tested in Austin, Texas, according to a further report by news agency Reuters this week.
