Reaction to the government’s decision to increase GOS fees by just 1 per cent has continued to flood in from across the profession.
Optometrist Ian White, founder of the GOS Reform website, said the UK optical bodies have been apathetic to the plight of the NHS sight test for ‘far too long’, while the practitioners on the ground have been ‘slowly reaching breaking point’.
He said: ‘In a nutshell, the current GOS regulations are far too convoluted and the payments are far too low, to provide the world-class service NHS patients demand in today’s world and the sustainability the practice owners require.’
White has also decided to stand for in the AOP council elections later this month.
