West Yorkshire-based Halifax Optical will close on September 30 after 77 years in business.
Owners Dr Chris Hall and his wife Fiona bought the business in 1992 when its then owners ran into financial difficulties. In the 1970s the business employed 25 people. Now, natural wastage and retirement has left the business with only two employees - David Holroyd and Peter Lomaz, who have both been with the company for 48 years.
Dr Hall said that as a result of the closure of the business, including a part-time practice, he has a large stock of glass uncuts and unused frames which he would like to donate to a charity willing to collect them.
