Harrogate OO helps sailor reach Team GB National Junior Sailing Squad

Young sailor Oliver Kent has thanked Harrogate optometrist Chris Nixon for helping him to reach the Team GB National Junior Sailing Squad.

Short sighted since the age of eight, Kent had been forced to navigate the sea wearing his glasses as the spray from the waves made it impossible for the young athlete to wear contact lenses.

However, after Nixon suggested that the 15-year-old should try Ortho-k contact lenses, Kent’s performances have improved considerably.

‘Not wearing anything in my eyes at all. And no restriction of soft lenses near the water, is amazing. My friends think it is pretty impressive,’ said the King James’ School pupil.
