Optometrist Natalie Murray's fitness to practise was found to be unimpaired by a General Optical Council fitness to practise committee on May 13.
Among the committee's findings were that on March 26, 2007, Murray did not take adequate medical history from a patient or make adequate records of the drug names of the patient's medication. At the consultation, she did correctly establish the presence of a lesion in the patient's right eye, but when the patient returned for another consultation in July 2008, Murray did not record the position of the lesion or record her reason for not referring the patient. She again did not record the drug names of the patient's current medication and did not refer the patient for further investigation of the lesion.
The committee stated that it was satisfied that these deficiencies concerned only one patient and that the test for deficient professional performance was not met. It also noted the 'impressive detail' given by Murray of how her practise had changed and that she had taken 'appropriate steps to remedy her deficiencies'. It concluded that a warning to Murray was not necessary.
