Optical industry and profession raises £1,000 in support of Optician editor

An impressive £1,000 has already been donated by optical suppliers and retailers to Blind veterans UK in support of a 24 hour cycle marathon being undertaken by Optician Editor Chris Bennett.

To raise money for BVUK Bennett is taking part in Revolve 24 at brand’s Hatch during the weekend of September 16/17. The event challenges individuals, or teams of up to eight, to see how far they can cycle in a 24 hour period. Bennett will be taking on the challenge as a solo rider alongside Coopervision’s Paul Maxwell.

Blind Veterans helps those suffering from visual impairment whether they are currently serving in the forces or may have served at any time in the past. Its work includes running day centres and the provision of housing and transport. It also works with optical practices through its No One Alone Campaign. So far donations have been made by Specsavers, Scope, Hoya, Grafton, Rodenstock, Adaro and Verve Marketing. Carl Zeiss Vision UK has also pledged £250.
