Optician's editor to tackle triathlon to raise cash for Blind Veterans UK

Optician's editor is taking part in an Ironman 70.3 style triathlon to raise money for charity. Why not join him or make a donation.

Optician’s editor, Chris Bennett will be taking part in the Sussex Original Triathlon this September to raise money for Blind Veterans UK and is looking for sponsorship.

Blind Veterans UK is a practical charity that helps those who have served in the armed forces but are now suffering visual loss. Many recipients may have completed National Service many years ago or have been in the forces for just a short period of time. BVUK helps people in their own homes with low vision services and runs facilities around the country as residential treatment and respite centres for visually impaired veterans and their families.

Each year Optician takes part in a charity challenge to raise money for its chosen charity and this year’s event requires competitors to swim, cycle and run distances equivalent to an Ironman 70.3 triathlon.

The day is centred around Ashburnham Place near Battle on the South Downs. Competitors will swim 2km in Ashburnham's lake which is part of its 225 acres of parkland before climbing onto their bikes for a 80km cycle around the steep climbs offered by the South Downs. The day ends with a 20km run through the tracks and trails of the Ashburnham estate.

Optician is looking for cash donations through Bennett’s Justgiving page which can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/opticianedi... . We would also like to hear from companies who might like to have their logos featured on Bennett’s kit in exchange for sponsorship. Optician is also inviting any triathletes among Optician’s readership to join Bennett and compete in the Sussex Original Triathlon themselves.
