International sight loss prevention charity Orbis has appointed Sotheby’s European chairman Henry Wyndham as an ambassador.

Wyndham, who has 40 years of experience in the art market and has also appeared as a valuation specialist on The Antiques Roadshow, has been working with the charity since 2012 following an accident where he was nearly blinded. He completed a 190 mile coast to coast walk in the UK and recently travelled to Ethiopia to observe Orbis’ flying eye hospital.

On his new role, Wyndham said: ‘I was involved in a rather serious shooting accident, in which I came very close to losing the sight in both my eyes. Had I not been wearing my glasses, I would have definitely been blinded forever. I was fortunate that my sight was not damaged.
