A hand written book of important case studies on eye injuries and diseases at Moorfields Hospital dating from 1900 is for sale at Bonham's Printed Books, Maps and Manuscripts auction at Oxford on April 27.
The auction house said the book almost certainly belonged to Sir John Herbert Parsons whose pioneering work Pathology of the Eye published between 1904 and 1908 established him as a world authority in the field. He also wrote Diseases of the Eye, which, in its 20th edition, is still in print over 100 years after it was written.
The 500-page manuscript of Catalogue of Pathological Specimens contains around 300 case studies at the London Ophthalmic Hospital, later Moorfields Eye Hospital.
