Hospitals lead optometry software growth

The North American optometry software market has been predicted to grow by $526.96m in the next five years, led by diagnostic demand from hospitals.

A market report, by Technavio Research, outlined a compound annual growth rate of 6.5% from 2022 to 2027, driven by convenient software solutions that manage patient treatment, prescriptions, eyeglasses, and other data.

Hospitals were expected to be at the forefront of the market due to the importance of diagnostic and surgical procedures in ophthalmology, as well as the consequence of continued prevalence of eye diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and refractive problems.

A significant challenge which has restricted the market was rising medical data privacy concerns, while other issues included global inflation; recovery from COVID-19; supply chain disruptions, global trade tensions; and risk of recession.
