Racism is present in all societies and walks of life and optics is no exception. More surprising perhaps is that it is issues such as racism that form the basis of complaints from the public to the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (OCCS).
A meeting hosted by the OCCS this week heard that race is among the topics that will increase complaints over coming months and years and warned that the profession has to be prepared if unfounded claims are to be rejected.
Optics enjoys a unique body in the OCCS andit is to its credit that it managed to gather together pretty much all corners of optics (contact lenses aside) to discuss complaints and how they could be avoided in the future.
