Huddersfield OO erased from GOC register

Huddersfield-based optometrist Yaqut Khan has been erased from the GOC register after a committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct.

Khan’s ‘cavalier approach’ to eye examinations impacted more than 200 patients and included failing to conduct tests adequately and inappropriately amending patient records.

Examples included wrongly referring for wet age-related macular degeneration despite a patient presenting with retinal detachment, failing to make urgent referrals and falsely claiming to have completed an Amsler test.

The misconduct was uncovered by chance, when a student optometrist observed the registrant dishonestly recording an eye exam, with a subsequent audit revealing he had put numerous patients at risk of harm.
