Huddersfield students welcome first patients

The University Valli Opticians clinic has officially opened

A new on-campus eye clinic at the University of Huddersfield, launched in partnership with Valli Opticians, has been officially opened by the university’s chancellor, Sir George Buckley.

University Valli Opticians has a suite of equipment for eye examinations that will be carried out on the public by final year students under supervision to develop their clinical skills.

After patients have an eye examination, they can choose from a range of spectacles that have been provided with a full fitting and aftercare service.

Moin Valli, managing director of Valli Opticians, said: ‘The clinic will shape the future of optometry students by giving them substantial real-life clinical and commercial experiences of working in a proper optometry practice and is a fantastic unique selling point of this particular BSc (Hons) Optometry course.’

He also pledged to build long-lasting relationships and actively seek out opportunities to engage with the community through local initiatives.

Professor John Siderov, head of optometry and vision sciences at the University of Huddersfield, added that by working with Valli, the clinic would benefit the wider community and enhance the student experience.

Optical industry suppliers, such as Hoya, Optos, Keeler, Haag-Streit, Nano Vista, Stepper and Body Doctor, attended the official opening of University Valli Opticians for a guided tour.
