Valli and Huddersfield uni’s student-led clinic

The University of Huddersfield partnered with Valli Opticians

An eye clinic will open for the public, university staff and students at the University of Huddersfield after the department for optometry and vision sciences partnered with Valli Opticians.

Optometry students will benefit from being able to gain clinical experience while supervised at University Valli Opticians and provide services such as eye examinations, dispensing eyewear and fitting contact lenses.

Moin Valli, managing director of Valli, said: ‘At Valli, we are committed to bringing back a sense of care by building long-lasting relationships and actively seeking out opportunities to engage with the community through local initiatives.

‘We are delighted to be collaborating in this innovative way with the University of Huddersfield, which will shape the future of optometry students by giving them substantial real-life clinical and commercial experiences of working in a proper optometry practice. I believe this is a fantastic unique selling point for the University of Huddersfield BSc Optometry course.'

Professor John Siderov, head of the university department, added he was delighted to be working with Valli Opticians and to oversee the project.

‘By working together to develop the field of optometry, University Valli Opticians will benefit the wider community, enhance the student experience as well as provide placement and employment experiences for students,’ Siderov said.
