The College of Optometrists, the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the Optical Suppliers’ Association (OSA) have launched a joint campaign to raise awareness of the importance of children’s eye tests and better signposting for parents to children’s eye care professionals on the high street.
Together, the organisations commissioned a survey of 1,008 parents on parents’ network Mumsnet to assess their understanding of children’s eye health and the support available to them.
The resulting report, Children’s Eye Health in the UK, found nearly one in 10 parents or carers (9%) will only take their child for their first optician visit if and when an eye health or vision issue arises.
