Organisers of Independents Day this week attracted 200 delegates despite noting a number of sporting distractions.

This year’s July 6-7 event in Birmingham included breakfast CET, a one-to-one business advice surgery and conference.

Nick Atkins, a director of organisers Proven Track Record, said: ‘On a weekend with Wimbledon, the Tour de France and the British Grand Prix to contend with, we’re particularly pleased to get a record attendance for our free-to-attend iShow exhibition and Sunday mini-symposium.’

Independents Night saw a record number of 160 practitioners and company representatives attend, with entertainment provided by magicians Young & Strange.

Atkins added: ‘We have held our own this year, and we have managed to put on a programme that has encouraged independents out of the practice for a day or two.’
