Independents face challenge

Sight Care, the independent practitioners' marketing support group, will host its fourth annual one-day business conference, exhibition and annual general meeting next month.

The event, which is billed as helping independent practitioners change to meet present challenges in the optical sector, is exclusively for independent staff and their managers. The one day meeting, 'Challenge for change', will take place at the Swallow St John's Hotel, Solihull, West Midlands on February 26. Entry is free to all independent practitioners. Main speakers include Frederico Hamman, director of Portugal's Institut Optico, a practice support organisation, and Chris Edmonds, chief executive of website monoptica. Workshops will include contributions from David Bray and Richard Petrie on 'Fee-based charging for all optometric services', Geraint Griffiths on 'Sports vision in practice', and Andrew Jenvey on 'Business planning and financial strategies'.
